The weather and media trauma have been covered. Now I step out of my comfort zone and express my opinion on political coverage. I do not watch debates and do not know if what I would look for would be expressed. I’m only interested in politician’s thoughts on the issues and I don’t care about listening to people verbally abuse each other or whining. Anybody can do that. I also don’t want a commentator telling me what I will likely hear before a debate and then tell me what I heard after I listened. I only start thinking about who I will vote for President once it’s down to the final candidates.
I mute or ignore political ads because they are often the candidate or some group on his or her behalf attacking the other candidates. It’s like seeing an ad about a medication and then you hear all the possible side effects. If all the candidates are so terrible, why would we want to vote for any of them? Then they make the situation worse by saying awful things about their opponents and when they lose, support them. All that tells me is that it is just a game and we are the true losers. It’s interesting to me that the politicians think attack ads are the only way to go. I have yet to hear a real person agree with that. Everyone I know does not like the ads and dreads the political seasons, particularly when a President is being elected.
I have heard about family members and friends that no longer speak to each other due to politics. That is a sad commentary on our country and the direction we are headed. I know people who share different views from mine, but it hasn’t affected our relationships. Come on people, it’s just politics.
The truth of the matter is that no party or person, Democrat, Republican, or Independent has all the answers. I’m an American and I vote for a person and not a party. A friend shared that she had to hold her nose to vote in one election. I know that feeling of not really wanting either candidate to win.
The people who would probably be the best candidates don’t run or they don’t want to subject themselves and their families to the horror of politics today. There have been candidates who ran, and I would have voted for, but they didn’t have the name recognition needed to beat the other politicians. This is sad.
I do not vote for “puppet” politicians. This is someone who, no matter what someone in his/her party does or says, it’s okay. If someone makes a mistake that is not okay, it is better to say nothing, than to validate bad behavior.
Here is how I vote:
- For someone
- Against someone
- Can’t decide and go for the one who has irritated me the least with ads. A radio ad on the way to vote, may be the deciding factor.
Wouldn’t it be great if there was a day or days that no ads could be run? I vote for Friday to Sunday each week. That way we could take a break from all the negativity. Political free weekends sound good to me.
Elected officials must work together, or nothing is accomplished. They seem to forget that they were elected to represent all the people, not just their supporters. I think its time for the “mirror test.” Everyone looks in the mirror before heading out the door and decides if they are going to be part of the problem or part of the solution. What a difference it would make if we all focus on solutions and stop creating more problems.
God bless America, He is the only one who can stop the madness.
